THE EVENT

Unbroken is a 24-hour team trail relay. Your team runs a 14 km bush loop, handing over after each lap, until every runner has completed their required distance. The clock runs from 1 pm Saturday to 1 pm Sunday — you have a maximum of 24 hours, and your team's movement must stay unbroken the whole way through.

What is the Unbroken Team Trail Marathon?

How the 24-hour relay works

  • The course is a single 14 km loop through Redlands Track Park.

  • Teams run in order, exchanging the timing chip after each completed loop, and keep the chip moving until everyone has finished their distance.

  • Runners alternate direction each lap — anticlockwise, then clockwise, then anticlockwise, and so on.

  • Solo 14 km and Junior runners complete their distance in a single effort.

Exactly how many loops you run depends on your event — see Distances & Divisions for the full breakdown.

The "unbroken movement" idea

One or more of your legs might be running on empty by 3 am — but as a team, your job is to keep moving until you're all done. That relentless, shared, keep-going spirit is what the event is named for.

Who it's for

Unbroken suits competitive teams chasing a division win and first-timers just keen to complete a trail run, marathon or ultra. With team and solo options — plus a short Junior event for the kids — there's a start line for most ability levels and ages.

Event History

UNBROKEN was launched in 2026 with a simple vision — to create a trail running event that was about more than just crossing the finish line. Founded through a partnership between Trail Trekkers and Trail Trips and Events, the inaugural event introduced a unique team relay format that brought runners together to share the challenge, support one another and celebrate every lap.

Held in the Scribbly Gum Conservation Area in Queensland's Redlands, the first UNBROKEN welcomed teams from across the state who embraced the event's spirit of teamwork, resilience and community. With runners camping together, sharing meals, encouraging fellow competitors and experiencing the trails as one, UNBROKEN quickly established itself for the atmosphere it created as much as the challenge itself.

Building on the success of the inaugural event, UNBROKEN promises to evolve into a trail running festival offering a range of team and individual distances while remaining true to its founding purpose: bringing people together through trail running and creating unforgettable experiences in the outdoors.

At its heart, UNBROKEN is built on one simple idea — running is better together.
